Meet Kimberly
Born in Houston, but raised in the rocky mountains of Salt Lake City, Kimberly Houk graduated from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and International Politics. Working as a television news personality, she learned quickly she had a passion and talent for telling people’s stories in memorable ways. Houk believes there is something interesting to discover about everyone, and all should record their life stories.
Houk began her career as a television news reporter interviewing Bill Murray on a golf course in Peoria, Illinois. From there, she returned home to join #1 ranked KSL-TV in Salt Lake City, Utah. Reporting from a landfill the day they found the murdered body of wife, Lori Hacking, led to Houk earning a Society of Professional Journalists award for breaking news coverage.
A top New York City agent noticed Houk’s reporting and took her out of Salt Lake City, placing her in Baltimore, Maryland where she covered the steroids scandal in major league baseball from our national capitol, before landing in Orlando Florida where she covered the death of missing toddler, Kaylee Anthony and the arrest of her mother, Casey Anthony.
She finished her career covering the trial of Elizabeth Smart’s abductors in Salt Lake City before realizing she would rather interview loved ones to preserve their life stories. Family Storyteller grew out of her desire to give families a true keepsake they could treasure for generations to come.
Houk loves reading, traveling, and skiing down Utah’s beautiful slopes.
